the house we moved to [2001]
the house we moved to
wore dusty crystal webs
the sentinels had tied
each step was a sigh
for lovers and friends
whose laughs and cries
once sang the walls alive
in the summer swelter
beneath the dozing grass
sow bugs groped their way
under its dreaming gaze
every year a new skin
flaking off in places
molted in the sunset haze
the music we moved to
under its tepid spell
blinds closed like eyes
blinking glimpses of lives
disturb not its slumber
where ants and flies
once crept the walls alive
in this summer shelter
beneath the sloping roof
now we place our pages
under its binding glaze
every day a new scene
taking another's place
folded in the sunset haze
