The Forest Road [2001]

i want to keep reading
even though the clock
turns its pages faster
than my eyes can flutter
when one has the energy
they spend it foolishly
wish for more when spent
as with time

thousands of twirling leaves
connected to a hundred branches
impaling a single trunk
which threatens to break
in the unrelenting wind

i look to a hillock
speed its white veil
glows beyond the mist
across the bluest face
when once all is grey
the droplets become one
wish for none or all
as with you

thousands of tilting birds
tethered to a hundred little boys
who tug a cardboard tube
and run till they break
to keep them aloft

i know you more now
ere you were stone
walks the forest road
through a maze of halls
when the fluid soul
finds peace in travel
wish for endless wishes
as with dream
